Growing up, Raitt said she remembers the folk music revival and discovering old Delta blues artists who were stars in the 1920s but had faded into obscurity by the time she was a teenager. She will also perform at the Hollywood Bowl May 31 and June 1. Raitt will perform at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio on Saturday, March 24, and Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula on Sunday, March 25. “The guitar is a very expressive instrument in general and there was something about the starkness and soulfulness and the dark night of the soul.”
“One person on a guitar or slide guitar is such a mournful lonely sound, like a human voice, that can express so many different emotions from longing to sexual heat to aching and betrayal,” Raitt said in a recent telephone interview. In the 47 years since Bonnie Raitt released her debut album, one thing hasn’t changed for the guitarist and singer: a deep, abiding love of the Delta blues.
